If you or your child is dealing with myopia, then you've probably already started looking into what your options are. For many years, the only option available for people who had myopia was corrective lenses – typically glasses. At Riviera Opticare Inc, we have provided residents of Scottsdale, AZ, and Mesa, AZ, with reliable myopia control options for many years.
Glasses and Contact Lenses
Glasses are usually the first method that many people with myopia use to correct their vision. While they are effective, they cannot do anything to fix or repair your eyes. The same is true for contact lenses. Getting used to glasses or contact lenses is relatively quick, and plenty of people live their entire lives with these devices.
Eye Drops
Eye drops can slow down or even halt the progression of myopia. These drops are only available by prescription from an optometrist. The drops contain a protein that slows down the deformation of the lens of the eye. Typically, the eyes of children can change very rapidly as they grow. Starting these drops early ensures that the eyes will not change too much. If a child is already wearing glasses, this means that he or she will not need a new prescription every year. It's important to realize, however, that these drops cannot reverse myopia. That means that most children who use these drops will still need to use glasses or contact lenses.
LASIK
Once a child has stopped growing, there is the potential for them to qualify for LASIK surgery. LASIK is a fairly quick in-office procedure in which the lens of the eye is reshaped using lasers. The vast majority of patients come away from this procedure with perfect or near-perfect vision, eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses. LASIK does have a few days of recovery time, but there are very few side effects.
